Deans List Uf College of Liberal Arts Adn Sciences

A liberal arts and sciences didactics is about breadth of learning. This idea is enshrined in the University's general teaching requirements, and further elaborated past the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' (CLAS) basic distribution requirements. CLAS believes that the best grooming for success draws deeply across the full range of the college'southward offerings. The Dean'south Medal takes this principle beyond the basic minimums that are required of all students, and recognizes those CLAS graduates who have gone above and beyond in their pursuit of cognition in liberal arts and sciences. Earning the Dean's Medal affirms that medal winners have non simply undertaken a significant range of courses, simply take acquired the range of skills and experiences valued by graduate and professional schools, organizations, employers, and communities.

About the Medal

The Dean's Medal for Excellence in Liberal Arts and Sciences

The obverse embraces the breadth and body of a liberal arts curriculum. The torch of knowledge lights the volume of learning that is rewarded with the laurel of educational activity. The Latin words—diversity, scholarship and generosity—describe the gifts education brings.

The opposite of the medal names the medal around the rim and includes images from the Nifty Seal of Florida and the Academy of Florida's seal.

The medal will be awarded with a gold and white ribbon representing the BA and BS degrees conferred by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The Dean's Medal is awarded by application only. Graduating students will be able to apply for the Dean'due south Medal kickoff in the drop/add period of the term in which they are graduating, and will typically have until the mid-point of that term to submit an application. The Dean's Medal awarding is online, and requires students to identify the specific courses taken at UF that meet each category for the Dean's Medal, and to explain the piece of work that satisfies the experiential learning portion of the requirements. No personal statement is required.

All Dean'south Medal applications volition be reviewed past the CLAS Academic Advising Center (AAC).

Winners will be celebrated at the Summertime Dean's Medal Ceremony on Fri, August five, 2022, from 10:00 – eleven:00 a.chiliad. (location TBD). Winners unable to nourish the ceremony volition exist able to selection up their medals in the Bookish Advising Center prior to graduation, in the expectation that students will wear the medals at their beginning ceremony.

Rules for the Dean's Medal for Excellence in Liberal Arts and Sciences (both Two-Year and Iv-Year)

All courses must be taken at the Academy of Florida.1
All courses must be offered past a unit/section in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
All courses must be completed with a class of "C" or higher or a grade of "Satisfactory" for South/U graded courses.
All courses must be three or more credits.2
Whatever course used toward the CLAS Dean's Medal may overlap with courses used toward the completion of a major, minor or certificate.
You may only apply for the CLAS Dean's Medal within your graduating semester.

The Dean'south Medal will be awarded to all iv-yr undergraduate CLAS majors who take undertaken the following at the University of Florida:

Humanities: Successful completion of two CLAS-taught courses that satisfy the UF general education requirement (or that run across the subject expanse requirements described here), one of which must be at the 3000-level or higher.

International AND/OR Diversity: Successful completion of 4 CLAS-taught courses that satisfy the UF full general pedagogy requirement (or that meet the bailiwick surface area requirements described here), two of which must be at the 3000-level or higher; these courses can overlap with other courses applied toward the Dean'south Medal.

Strange Language: Successful completion of a ii-semester sequence in a foreign linguistic communication. Two non-sequential linguistic communication courses at the upper-division level would also count.

Professional Communication: Successful completion of one form in professional person communication.4 Options include:

A three-credit Punch Center for Written and Oral Communication course at the 2000-level or college
